Head Wound Girl

This is a letter I received in my email today from my husband.   It made me laugh really hard

Dearest Bride and Woman of my Dreams,

Today you experienced a smack on the head from a falling hard hat (Ironic).   The bump that has now formed on your head is a direct result of my carelessness when putting away my belongings.   While I did not intentionally set out to cause you pain; I do feel responsible for this mishap.

You recently professed to love me with all of your heart.  I believe your confession of love.  But I know that your head can tell your heart what to do.  I hope my thoughtlessness doesn’t cause you to change your heart.

As recompense for my careless act, I propose to do the following:
1.       Hold you and tell you that everything will be alright
2.       Clean the dishes
3.       Make dinner
4.       Serve you as my queen
5.       Let you take a swing at my head with the aforementioned hard hat.

I hope these actions will demonstrate my love and commitment for you.   Remember, if you love someone set them free… but if you really love them, you can forgive them after sustaining a head-wound that they caused.

In conclusion; I am sorry for indirectly inflicting a head injury on you.  I beg you to forgive me.

Your eternally devoted (if not a bit careless) Husband,

Kersten

P.S.   On the bright side; between Sofia hitting you on the head with a frying pain and enduring a falling hard-hat we now know you have a sturdy melon.  Rest assured, I will never intentionally test the structural integrity of your skull, but it has to be comforting  to know that you could hold your own in a head-butting contest.

True Love

I have been thinking a lot about true love lately. Not just love, since there are so many different kinds. But the full blown, drag out, can't live without each other kind of love that last beyond this realm and for forever. Any one that knows me well, knows that I am a bit obsessed with love.

In high school I cut out magazine pictures of people in love and gathered quotes about love and made a "Love Book". I spent hours and hours on this endeavor. I ended up with 2 huge binders of quotes and pictures and 2 file folders in my file cabinet, that I still just can't throw away. I got the idea from one of my Laurel advisors from church who had the most amazing activity that inspired me.

I spent hours dreaming, scheming, planning and preparing to find and meet my true love. I just knew it would be full of passion, understanding and that we would be in perfect harmonious bliss together. I hit quite a few pit falls in my search for love but, we all have our stories. And when the reality that I might love this person instead of just liking him a lot hit me, I could not speak, my jaw had hit the floor and my best friend had to nudge me to get me moving so we could leave the airport. It was blissful and perfect. And he was and is so handsome and charming and all those beautiful things I imagined. When he finally kissed me on the roof with the stars glittering over head, I thought my soul would burst with happiness. We spent a perfect year together, deep in love and making many mistakes but trusting and talking things through. When he left I felt like my heart had shriveled up into a piece of dried fruit and I did not know how I would move on. I did, and I went to school and dated, played and met many more men. But none of them were him. He unexpectedly had to come home due to an injury that involved surgery and the whole nine yards. We spent the summer, secretly touching fingers under the table and later on, one armed hugs. Talking and talking until we had nothing more to say so we just sat in blissful silence. He left again and it was hard again. But I managed a bit better. And when he returned it was all we could do not to be together every minute of every day. When he proposed on that frigid December evening under the twinkling lights my dreams had come true. He was all I had dreamed and more. That February we had a test, I did not know it was a test at the time. Looking back it was a defining moment when I knew that I had made the right choice. I got sick, really really sick and at this point I had never been so sick. My dearest love was beside me every minute of getting better and the nurses thought that we were already married. I knew then as I know now that he will always care for me in times of need.

I will never forget kneeling across the altar, and when he said Yes, with a wink and a smile that bound us together as one for the rest of all eternity. I knew that I had found it. I had True Love like I had dreamed. I knew there was no possible way that we would not live Happily ever after. And the truth of it is, that we have. But now 11 some odd years later I know that true love is more than the bliss, the passion, the oneness and what we think it should be. It is the small and very large things that every couple must endure. The reality is that along with the passion there is anger, anxiousness and impatience. That with the courage and protectiveness comes fear and paranoia. That love flows and bends and melds into things you knew and need to learn so that it can stand the tests of time. A very shocking realization is that there are times you could say you hate the one you swore to love for all time and beyond. That he annoys and bugs you and that you can feel complaintcant toward him.

The absolute greatest example I know of true love is my grandparents. Oh, their love was legendary. I strived to find that and live like they did. The first summer with my love I walked with my grandmother and she told me the stories and the reality of living with such love. I look back now and am in awe that she knew just what to share and how. It is something I hold quite dear. Recently I was talking with one of my sisters and my grandparents great love came into the conversations. And with talking with her she sparked all these thoughts. By the time I knew my grandparents they had raised 5 children, had numerous grandchildren, lost a business, retired and then some. They had LIVED their life. They had struggled, fought and strived for their relationship and their love. It could not have been easy for my grandma. My grandpa traveled a lot and I mean a lot. She raised the children a lot on her own. And when he was home he wanted peace and quiet. He yelled a lot and wanted things a certain way. But he also adored her and his children, he cared for them. She chose to stay so very much in love with him. So that what I remember is how they learned to talk to each other, they had learned the silly eccentricities of each other and embraced their differences and just cared and loved one another. He always called her "His Bride" and his "gorgeous dish". She always giggled and kissed him.

LOVE is something we have to fight for. It is something that we choose to do every single day. The love I wanted and dreamed of is not something that happens after he finds my shoe and sweeps me off my feet to take me away forever. It is something we work for every single day. Every minute we make choices whether to solidify our love or drive it away. And it has to be the choice of both of the lovers. And you have to keep making that choice even when it crap and not fair. It is good to be the first to calm down and forgive. To force the real issues to be talked about. Because if you do have True Love, your love will fight with you and do romanticall things because he knows you love it. And when he sneaks up behind you to hold you close and calls you "Bride" because he always has and now you know how significant that is. You can relish in his love and remember that this is forever and it is so so so much better than you dreamed. And then you giggle and kiss him with all you've got.

32 is cucky

Today is my dear husbands birthday and as you can guess from the title he turned 32 today. Noah cannot except his new age. My boy has a hard time with change. Whenever we would talk about Daddy turning 32 today, he would pout and say "No, 31, 32 is cucky" which is yucky with a c. It made us laugh so hard. He had to work today so it has not been to exciting for him today. Plus I caught a bug and am totally out of it. So it has been a bit uneventful.

We did celebrate a lot this weekend. Yesterday we had a b-day party at his parents house. His little sister Christel has a birthday the day before his so we partied yesterday. We had yummy pitas for dinner and Monika made tiramisu for Kerst and Christel or "Mo" and chocolate cake for everyone else. It was a lovely time.

On Saturday, after I arrived home from my girls night sleepover (more on that later) our family packed it up and we went and saw "Star Wars, The Clone Wars". Nik and Lena accompanied us to the event. The best part of the movie was watching Noah reenact it as it was going on. You can image the intense excitment in our house, since Star Wars is beyond an obsession at our house. It has really cool battles and did not disappoint my boys at all.

Another big event going on at our house is that our little Sofia is on the move.  She crawls with her right leg tucked underneath and scoots along.  She is getting faster everyday.  All I can say is that she is trouble now.  She slowly follows me around the house.  Cries at the bottom of the stairs if I am putting laundry away, pulls off all the magnets  on the fridge.and grabs anything that is near.    She is so fun right now.

Home at Last

The boys got back on Friday night.  It has been so nice to have them home.  Everyone is back and all is right in the our world again.  They had a glorious time in Disneyland.  Noah was tall enough to ride Star Tours, which he keeps talking about. Noah did get to see Jedi Academy.  Darth Maul is a bit scarier in real life than on tv.  He did not get called up to fight them.  He was frustrated with the kids fighting style,  Kerst said that Noah kept yelling at them to do it differently.  He built a double bladed lightsaber and got some squeaky Star Wars toys for Sofia.  She loves chewing on them.  They went and saw Wall-E and ate yummy crab.

Noah gave me hugs over and over again when they returned home.  Sofia lit up and kept laughing at Kerst and Noah.  They had a really hard time falling asleep.  Sofia kept peeking over her bumper pad to see if Noah was still there. We have had so much fun just laughing and being together.  Sofia really is just so happy.

I did get Sofia's dresser painted and it turned out better than in my head.  At first it was scarier then it turned out great.  We set it up in their room last night.  It is yellow and I love it

Kersten Dad Heinz gave us his old camera to use until we can save to get a new one.  So we still will be able to post new pics of our kids. So that was a relief.  Hooray.  Thanks Heinz

We went and visited Todd today at the hospital,  who technically is my stepbrother.  A couple weeks ago he had 3 strokes.  We have been really worried about him and his progress.  He is only 34.  He is doing well and it was really good to see him today.  He still is himself. I can't even imagine being Amy his wife.  His brother Brett set up a blog about his progress called Diff'rent Strokes.  I have it on my sidebar under (Todd-Diff'rent Strokes).  They have totally been in my prayers and thoughts everyday.  I could not blog or think about it to much.  Todd was my senior prom date my junior year of high school.  They are good friends of ours.  I am really glad we saw him and he remembered us.  He is such a fun guy to be with and it is still fun.  We love you guys

Outside it has been so hot.  I long for central air.  There is nothing worse for me than to be hot.  I want to run around in my underwear.  Although that would not be appropriate. It has been such a good weekend.  My boys are back

My boys and their adventures so far

Oh, I miss this boy.
It has only been 3 days and I miss hearing his chaos around the house.
Sofia keeps looking for him.
In the car she keeps looking to where is is suppose to be and then looks at me accusingly.
He loved Shamu in Sea World yesterday,
before he left he kept talking about the dolphins and they did not disappoint.
And called me right after he saw the penguins.
  He said he missed me.
Noah scraped his foot at the bottom of the pool
so he is having a rough time walking around.
I miss him and his little dog Pal too,  they have such silly antics together
I miss this smokin hot husband also.
So cute yesterday, he kept calling to keep me updated on their fun in Sea World.
He is really enjoying the time he has with his family.
I was really sad that I was not going.
And I had a really positive attitude about all I would do when they left.
Now I am a bit lonely, trying to get to much done.
Enjoying my Sofia so much,  having lots and lots of quiet moments
that I treasure with her.
She gets bored quickly without Noah to make her laugh.
Her dresser has the first coat on and darn that
I did not have a camera to take the before pic,
The after pic will be none existant also for our camera broke yesterday for Kerst.
Sad, sad days.  It was on it's way out anyway.

Gone

My boys are gone for a week to beautiful California.
They left at 5 am,  way to early for a late riser like Noah.
I am sad I am not with them.  They went with Kersten's family and his uncle and fam.
I wish I was there to see Noah when he goes to Jedi Academy at Disneyland
and when he see's the dolphin at Sea World.  Those are the two things he keeps talking about.
Noah says he will miss Sofia the most.  He was mighty upset she was not going.
I am going to have a marvelous week to myself with the baby
I am going to paint Sofia's dresser.
Finish our scrapbook for our California trip two years ago
Have a sleepover with my best friend
and read a lot.
Those are my plans.
Don't they sound Heavenly?

Anniversary-Memorial Adventure

*Anniversary Adventure was fantastic.
We stayed overnight at the Anniversary Inn
and went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.
Have you had there Avocado Rolls.
I crave them now.

The next morning we slept in
and did not check out until the last minute
and then saw Prince Caspian. Totally loved it.
So nice to have uninterupted time to talk
and just be together.
Thanks Dad and Kayleen for the fun room.
Thanks Mom and Al for watching our kids.

*We had a babysitter on Friday Night also
We saw Indiana Jones
Loved it also.
I liked how they stayed true to the time period,
It was suppose to be filmed in.
Makes Archeology seem exciting.
Fun, upbeat and cheesy just like the originals.

*Loved Prince Caspian so much
that Noah and I went on a date on Saturday.
His favorite character was the mouse, Reepicheep.

*On Sunday in Primary,
they talked about Priesthood Power
saw the evidence that Noah has learned
something or been listening to what we have tried to teach him

*Memorial day, was wet and rainy
Saw old friends for lunch
Quinn and Barbara and their boys.
Noah and his Dallin
are the same age as when Quinn and I were best friends.
I am so glad we are still friends

*Swimming Party got rained out.
Moved it to my house.
Saw all my sisters , brother and their families
Yummy food.
Fun to be together
Massive wrestling match in my front room.
Noah won the belt.
It was a good day.

*Fun to have Kersten off work for so much time.
Loved having fun things to do but not to much.
Saw so many movies, I feel like I didn't have kids.

Happy 10 Yr Anniversary-Marriage Meme

Where did you meet your husband?
Kersten and I met just before my Junior year and his Senior Year of High School at a football game. We flirted outrageously in the halls at school and dated each others best friends. My mom would always say to me "Why don't you date Kersten, he is the cute one. And he is German."

What was the first thing you said to your husband?
I don't really remember at all. I do remember thinking that Matt's best friend was really cute.

Where was the first date? First kiss?
For our first date, Kersten called and asked me to go with him to the Opera. It was January and I was suppose to go to the Utah Symphony with my friend Megan and my mom. I ended up going with Kersten and my mom and Megan went to the Symphony. Looking back that is totally rude. He had student tickets from one of his classes. We doubled with his friend Matt and his girlfriend. We went to ice cream afterwards

For our first kiss, It was after priesthood meeting n Oct 1,1994. He picked me up afterwards and we went and got ice cream at Baskin Robbins. We then went to Tanner Park and walked around and sat and talked on what we now call the "Rock of Love". Afterwards we went to his parents house and laid on the grass and talked on the lawn. I was wearing his blue hooded sweatshirt to keep me warm We then climbed on the roof to his bedroom and snuggled and looked at the stars. after our long conversation about our relationship (he was leaving on his mission soon). He kissed me around 11:36 pm. It was pure bliss. One of the reason I married him in the first place is that he is an amazing kisser.

Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?
We were engaged for 5 months which was to long and just the right amount of time.

Where did you get engaged?
We got engaged on December 18, 1997 while looking at the lights at Christmastime at Temple Square. I blogged about the entire story in my Dec 18 2006 if you click on the title you can link to this post and read the whole story

Where did you get married? In the Salt Lake LDS Temple on a beautiful dewy morning at 8:20 am. It was so beautiful. I remember seeing him before we went into the sealing room, with so much anticipation and love I felt as if I would burst. It rained that day any event that we were inside but when we were outside taking picture it was beautiful with the sun peaking behind the clouds and the wind blowing my veil around my face. We rode a carriage from the temple to our wedding breakfast. There was a group of school kids walking on a field trip. When they saw us they started cheering and a little boy yelled "You finally did it". He does not know how true that really was.

How did the reception go?
My reception was a dream. It was perfect. My colors were yellow and white with daisies and yellow roses everywhere. It was so fresh and happy. It took place at Carmelle, my Grandma Shep's reception center. We ate lace cookie cups with vanilla ice cream and strawberries on top. My centerpieces were tall cylinder vases with lemons inside and floating candles. My cake was so beautiful but did not taste good. The frosting was delectable but the cake was yuck. Only one thing was not perfect and I am slowly getting past it. The bridesmaid were in yellow with daisy flower crowns. I really would not change anything about my wedding except I would have the dresses be more formal to the floor for my bridesmaids. Oh, it is making me so happy to think about this. I am pulling out the scrapbooks now.

How was the honeymoon?
I will spare you the details but it was fabulous.

U2 3D

Last Night because of two very nice people, namely Nik, my bro and his wife Lena. Kersten and I stole away in the night to go see U2 3D at the IMAX theatre. Kersten and I both LOVE the band U2. So we were really excited, Nik and Lena saw it a couple of weeks ago and decided then and there they were going to make it happen so that we could see the show. It was totally amazing. We saw them in concert a couple of years ago and in some ways this was a bit better. You could taste the energy of the concert. I wished we could have stood up and danced to the music. The cinematography was incredible. The 3D made you feel so much more in the concert. This sounds so silly but it made me feel young again. Not saying that I am old or anything. Sitting there with my sweetheart listening to U2. He was the one to really get me into them back in high school when we started dating. I had the thought that when we are really old we will be sitting together listening or watching U2 or Dave Matthews thinking this is the way music is suppose to be. Not the new fangled stuff the young kids are listening too. Hah Hah. Just like my Grandparents would listen to Glen Miller and remember.

I don't know what it is about Bono but he is so very sexy to me when he is singing. When the concert started and the music got louder and he started singing. I felt that pull in my gut of "Woah, hot". I commented to Kersten about this and he just laughed at me. I actually have blogged about how hot Bono is when singing in the first month I started blogging. How funny is that. He wore like a half dozen different jackets during the show. I waited in anticipation to see what cool leather jacket he would sport next. I told Kerst I want him to wear a black t-shirt with a leather jacket and slick back his hair. I was teasing of course. It made him laugh so it was worth it. Bono does so much for the world, it is a good rock star crush. One thing I noticed is that all four band members were wearing their wedding rings That made me even like them more. I also now have a smaller crush on The Edge, the guitar player. He is so talented and had a fantastic presence. Kersten and Lena both commented that he is the best, most normal looking of the bunch. They are all looking a bit older also. Especally Adam the bass player and The Edge's arms. We both had the best time and talked about it all night. Loved the music, the movie was completely amazing and really worth it to see. I don't know how much longer it is in the theatres, if you are a U2 fan you HAVE to see it. Thank you again Nik and Lena for spoiling us. We loved it and are indebted to you.

End of an Era

Pic is from when we carved pumpkins
Today is Kersten's last day of working half days. I am really actually very sad about it and a bit relieved. I have such conflicting feelings. Now, it means that he is healing and getting better. His back is stronger, he is happier and the world can go back to normal and so can our income.

On the other hand, I am 5 1/2 weeks from delivery our baby girl and it has been a life saver to know that Kersten will be home in the afternoons. Especially, lately. I am suppose to be down most of the time and I admit that I have been really bad at this. I have to feed my child and myself and my sanity and pride won't let me live in complete chaos and filth.

So I wait and look forward to the afternoons when I know my sweet hubby will walk in the door. He chases after Noah and gives him his much needed active time. The other day when he got home, Noah and Dad saved Mom from a massive attack of Sith Lords in our house, then promptly went outside to shovel the walk (naughty Kersten, but as he says who else can do it and it needs to be done) after the chore was done, it turned into a massive snowball fight. They both came in happy with bright red cheeks from the cold. They both could not stop talking about it. Afterwards, Kersten gave him a bath. Which is really almost impossible for me to bend down to get him clean. And while all this was going on, I laid down and took a nap.
The next day, they played Star Wars legos, went to the store and wrestled. While I slept. I know, I am so very spoiled. This has kept me sane and healthy. I worry about the next month. I will Survive, I really don't have a choice. But, the last little while it has been really nice to have my husband home in the early afternoon. we have had a lot of fun. I will miss it. The End of this Era has arrived. It has been rewarding, extremely hard, frustrating, scary, joyful and really nice in so many ways.

My Two Men

I love this picture of my two men. How could you not? Look at them, I could just eat them up. I love them so much. I am such a lucky woman. This was taken after we carved pumpkins right before halloween

All the Happenings

Life is calming down but also getting more chaotic (at least if only in my head).

Kersten started back at work part time yesterday. I think from my perspective, it was really good for him. It made him feel productive and back to the norm. Everyone at work seemed to miss him and welcome him back, happily The only down note is now he has a new boss and so far Kersten is not that happy about it. So we shall see how this all pans out. He is trying to figure out what to dress up for Halloween. It wasn't our top priority and now he needs a costume for tommrow. The rest of his team are being Nuns so he thought he could be the devil. But we can only find glittery horns, so it is not working

Noah is doing really well. He (not to jinx it or get to hopeful) has been wearing big boy underwear since last Wednesday. He has a least one accident a day but overall is doing pretty well. It is all I can hope for right now. He is having a hard time pooping on the toilet. Does anyone have suggestions for this? He waits until he has a nightime pull up on to poop. Or does a tiny bit in the toilet and finishes in his underwear. He got in trouble last tuesday after school for his teacher pulled me aside to talk to me about how Noah would not let her change his pull up when it was wet. He threw a huge temper tantrum and hit her leg. Well, we don't put up with this in our family. No hitting allowed and we respect our teachers. They whole way home I talked to him about how if he wanted to still wear pull ups he had to let his teacher change them at school. He never ever acts like that to his teacher, etc etc. Then when we got home we told Dad what happened and Noah had his dad and mom talk to him about it. He hates being in trouble. That night when it was bathtime, he just walked up to the toilet like it was not big deal and went to the bathroom. The next day he insisted that he wear Underwear. He had one accident that day as he ran up the stairs to the potty. On Sunday he used the urinals in the boys bathroom at church with his dad. He thought it was really cool that only Boys could use these toilets. I am a little hopeful that this is the beginning of the end. But, I am not counting my chickens before they hatch.

My next appt with the doc it next Monday Nov 5. This is also the week that starts my Non Stress Tests twice a week. So the insanity begins until this little girl comes. I am really trying to focus on my time with Noah right now, just us. I have been feeling lately that I will really miss him and our time. He is so joyful and fun (most of the time) and I just Love being his mom. I know I will love this little girl also. But it is kind of an idealic time with just me and my boy. And dad comes home at least for the next month a little early. So I am counting my blessings

Happy Birthday! My Kersten.

I am seriously the luckiest woman alive to be married to my husband. He is getting really old now, especially because today is his birthday. I still remember the first time I realized that I felt something a bit more than just friendship for my hot husband. I was speechless and couldn't move. My best friend Carrie had to knock me out of my daze. Kersten has so many layers and it has been the best adventure imaginable living my life with him. I knew that life would be fun and there would always be surprises with him in it. And I was definitely right. He has the best sense of humor and is always joking, teasing and being majorly silly. He lives his life so passionately and with a vibrance that can be quite alarming. He puts up this act that he is so crude and crass and really he is so inately good. He makes me realize my potential and I just love him for it. He is the most amazing father to Noah. His patience is endless with his boy, which is saying a lot if you know him well. Noah took the picture of the two of us above. I know he will be a wonderful daddy for our new little girl when she arrives. I think he already understands her a bit better than I do. I am so glad that Kersten is my husband. I am a very blessed woman to love him and be loved by him. Happy Birthday babe. I hope you have a fantastic day

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Everyone the unbelievable happened. Today Kersten and I got to go see a movie in the theatre. It was so fun and a bit spontanous. We have a list that seems a mile long of movies that we want to see in the theatre. Lucky for us, Nik and Lena wanted to celebrate their big move and take a break from it all and decided to go see "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". And nice Aunt Ginny wanted to play with Noah, The planets aligned and we were able to see one of our most anticipated movies of the year. We were a bit giddy with our bout of freedom. I Loved the movie, as I suspected I would. At the beginning of the Harry Potter frenzy, I resisted as long as possible and did not even start reading the books until the 3rd one came out. Afterwards, I chose to ride of wave of the fun and frenzy that is Harry Potter. I love the magic and how most everyone can relate to the story. I had forgotten which story this movie was, but it came back to me quickly. We had the best time and since we went to an early show, Noah did not get to bed too late. What bliss! It was marvelous to go out, go and do something we both love (movies) and also one that we have been anticipating so much. Thanks to all who made it possible.

Happy Father's Day

Ten Reasons Kersten is a marvelous Father and Dad

1. He tells Pal or Star Wars stories to Noah at bedtime

2. When he is fixing something or doing any kind of project, he takes the time to show Noah how to do it and even lets him try the tools.

3. He wrestles, help save mom from Zurg and Plays Lightsabers to Noah's heart content

4. He reads to Noah everyday and if Dad is there, Mom can't read

5. He is constantly thinking and finding new things to explore with the boy

6. He builds forts and even crawls around inside with him

7. He teaches Noah to respect and be reverent during prayers

8. He is a stickler for manners and makes sure that Noah at least tries to be polite no matter what the situation.

9. My husband is not known for his patience, but when it comes to Noah it comes in leaps and bounds

10. He snuggles, kisses and loves his boy to pieces

We love you Kersten, Happy Father's Day
