Sofia's 1 year book

So here is the project I was working on a couple of weeks ago.  Now I am making Sofia her Jesus book so that is why my blog has been lacking as of lately.  I could not decide what page to sample so I just put all of them there except for the page with the letter from me and the ones with her one year old picture on them.  I have not printed those pics yet.  So enjoy,  cause I know I sure enjoyed making it.  Isn't she the cutest girl?  Today is her 13 month birthday and I did not want anyone to miss a post monthly about my Sofia.

Then the rest of them did not make sense and it started talking about Hugh Laurie the actor on the series House on Fox.  I personally think he is brilliant and totally love him.  Anyway, to continue with my swimming thoughts.  I have contemplated the differences between my needs and my wants a lot lately.  I am trying to organize not just my house but my feelings and emotions also.  This google exercise cracked me up,  I do need HELP.  And I do need to read to keep myself sane.  And as I contemplated my needs this is what I figured out.  

Laurie needs the Gospel.  Laurie needs to pray and read her scriptures.  Laurie need to love her husband.  Laurie needs to hug and kiss her kids at least 5 times a day.  Laurie needs to get enough sleep. Laurie needs less clutter.  Laurie needs to manage her time better.  Laurie needs to be more self disciplined.  Laurie needs a bit of alone time with herself everyday (even if it is just in the bathroom). So instead of making goals, resolutions or whatever.  I am going to focus this year on needs and not worry so much about what I want.  I think I will be happier and much more fullfilled.  

Grateful Sunday 1-25-08

Healthy kids:  It finally seems after a bit more than two weeks that my kids are on the mend.  Between all the crazy stuff that keeps coming on top of each other.  I am hoping the end is in sight and here.  

Fabulous Pediatrician:  I can't say enough how much I love my kids doctor.   I feel indebted to Kieran for  helping me get into her when Noah was a baby.  She is so bright and really cares and takes time to talk with us.  She has calmed our minds so much.

Productive weekends:  Kersten and I got so much accomplished this weekend.  It felt really fabulous and I just love working side by side with my husband.  It was like a dance and at the end of yesterday we both were very pleased with what we had done.  Thanks honey for working so hard with me.  

My kids:  Even though they have been sick,  they have been so funny and joyful.  Noah's imagination is so expansive that It is so fun living in his world.  His words are better so I can understand a bit more of what is going on in his head.  Sofia is so full  curiosity and mischief. She makes us all laugh and go crazy all at once.  So funny

  

Piggies and curls and a bit of other stuff

On Saturday Jan 17 we had Amie Thelin take Sofia's one year old pictures.  The monday before we discovered that Sofia can now wear pigtails.  And that if we put product in her hair it is really curly.  So cute I can hardly stand it.  We played with Kieran, Heber, Avery and Grahams on thursday and she made the sweetest bows to go with her dress.  Are they not so very adorable?  Now I have all these bows I need to make swimming around in my head.  So so fun and cute.   Sofia loves pulling on Kersten's hair.  This is how she tries to wake him up and by putting her fingers in his ears.  He cannot stand anything in his ears.  

Noah was the best brother ever and helped us to make her smile and laugh.  I love this boy.

Wow, she is just so beautiful.  I just love those piggies and the curls.

  I will post the real ones when I get them.  I am so excited to see them. 

Kersten and I went to a New Year Hope Ball at Abravendel Hall on Friday.

It was a formal event and it was so fun to dance with him again.

I loved getting dressed up and feeling like Cinderella. 

It was just really good to have a date.  

More later.  I hear a very unhappy baby.  

She has had diarrhea since Sunday morning with sporadic throw up.  Poor girl

Such a random post.  Oh well

Upset I would say...

This has been what my entire week has looked like.  All day long, following me around.  And then Brother decides it looks like fun to whine apparently it is really fun to be upset.  I think she is getting molars.  And man she looks so cute even when she is this upset.  Love my girl.  

Noah Tidbits

* The other day I was teasing Noah that I was going to eat his belly button because it was so tasty and I was hungry.  He proceeds to get really upset, throwing a massive fit as he explains that if I eat his belly all of his insides would come out and go swimming to the tv and break it.  This all done in words, sign language and gestures.  I now see the logic in not eating his belly.  I really don't want the tv to be broken.

* Noah and I were in the kitchen and I stated that I wanted to make cookies and asked if he thought it was a good idea.  He shook his head "no"  looking really thoughtful.  This surprised me since cookies are his absolute favorite.  So I asked him "why not?".  He then explains that if we made cookies right now then when Dad got home there would not be any left for him and that would make him sad and cry.  I asked then if maybe we could save some for Dad, since they are his favorite too.  Noah looks up thoughtfully and then says, "We can save him one".  Not any more than that.  Noah shakes his head and says "only one, so sad".

*I have this baby penguin that you can zip up in his egg and pretend that he hatches.  Noah is really attached and the baby hatches multiple times a day.  And each time he comes out,  Noah exclaims "oh so cute"  and hugs and strokes him.  Then the baby starts to cry and he rocks him back and forth.  I admit this baby penguin is awfully cute.

*Noah got an Usbourne  Children's Atlas for Christmas from his G and G F*.  He has started pouring over each map.  Sometimes they are treasure maps.  Some are maps for different Star Wars Planets.  His favorite part is on each page there are red spots where the maps show the different terrains and it is suppose to show where the hot desert is in the world.  Noah told me it is where all the Hot Lava is.  And where the white is  (Antarctica) is where the ice is to cool down your feet after they get hurt on the hot lava.  This boy cracks me up.  Also on our walks we have to jump over  a lot of hot lava lately.

 Also he explained that he (as Anakin) and Obi-wan fight over hot lava.  I asked him who won that fight and he told me Obi-wan does.  And that is when he becomes Darth Vader.  We have never let him watch the 3rd Star Wars where Anakin becomes Darth Vader.  It would ruin his hero.  We have explained it to him but never showed it to him.  Kersten and I are contemplative but not entirely surprised that he knew this.

I learned of this book from my Children's literature class, my last semester in college.  That class was the perfect way to end school, at least for me.  This book is in my top ten all time favorite children's books.  The illustrations are just lovely and authentic.  The lovely illustrations are slightly muted in tone, appropriately giving the book the look of a memory recalledIt teaches lessons about tolerance, love, excepting and embracing all our differences. I love the flow and rhythm of this book. It is lovely to read out loud. Outstanding in every way. You really just have to read to see why I just love it so much.  

Seven-year-old Anna Zabrocky is excited about her first day in the second grade. She is also very curious about her new teacher, Sister Anne, an African-American nun. Anna has never encountered a black person up close and personal before. Therefore, she feels a little uncertain and nervous as she avoids Sister Anne's gentle touch of welcome on the first day of school. Soon all of Anna's apprehensions vanish as her classroom comes alive. Sister Anne's warmth and gentleness engages them in learning new things, sharing wonderful stories and telling hearty jokes. Just when everything feels perfect for the new school year, someone hurls a paper airplane that sails by Sister Anne's head and hits the blackboard. On its wings were written some very hurtful things. Not only did this cruel act bring a great deal of pain to Sister Anne's eyes, but a sense of guilt comes upon Anna as though she had crafted the paper airplane herself. It is how Sister Anne chooses to take this painful moment and turn it into a teachable moment that makes this book so great. By the close of the school year, it is obvious that the strength and courage of this teacher changes the lives of her students forever. I love the very specific way it changes Anna.

Haphazard Happenings

I know I have been a slow blogger lately. It has been a bit crazy busy around here but a good crazy. I did not mean to drop off the planet. Instead of blogging at night or in my free time I have been working on Sofia's 1 year mini scrapbook. It feels good to get back into scrapbooking and making something. Kersten always teases that I love to make things from paper and Sofia loves to eat paper. Ha Ha, So here is a bit of random things going on.

We had another cupcake eating by our Baby Doo Sofia. She had it down the next Sunday at Kersten's Parents house. She dug right into the cupcake like a pro. And ate almost the whole thing and then beg more treats of everyone afterwards. She is such a delight.

During Christmas, we got this Disney Christmas CD for $5 at Target.  One of my favorite memories happened from this CD.  Goofy does a pretty awesome rendition of Deck the Halls which became Noah's favorite.  As you can imagine we listened to this in the car over and over again.  He likes songs that have La la la la la's in them.  His absolute favorite part was at the end when Goofy says "Mickey, do you know what the best part about Christmas is?  And Mickey replies "Is it being together?" and Goofy replies "No, the fruitcake".  And they all laugh.  Oh, if you guys could hear how cute it is to hear Noah laugh and say "Fruitcake",  you would  thank your lucky stars to hear such joy.  He thinks he is so funny and told everyone that joke.  He asked if we could eat and make fruitcake and even took the CD to his Christmas party at school to share with his class.  It is fun to see his sense of humor develop.  

The little People house that Sofia got from G and G F* for Christmas is the biggest hit of all the gifts.  Noah discovered that his Star Wars Galactic Heroes fit in the house.  This is how we play,  the phone rings and the Star Wars guys get invited over for Pancakes and juice.  So he Mom just makes pancakes and answers the door.  After pancakes they either watch a movie with the dad or play Xbox.  While the mom takes care of the two babies which have been named Penelope and Lila.    At one point, everyone was occupied so I asked Noah what the girls were going to do for fun.  That is the mom, Princess Leia and Shaak-ti.  He first said that they could talk on the phone, and I pointed out that they were together so they did not need a phone.  He then said we could make pancakes,  I replied that we just finished eating pancakes.  He then said we could take care of the babies that were asleep.  He had a hard time figuring out what the girls should do.  I finally asked him what mommy and her friends do when they are together.   He then had and Ah ha moment and said that the girls could paint the house.  So this was an interesting look into Noah's perception of what I do for fun,  I talk on the phone, make pancakes, take care of the baby and paint the house.  Hilarious.  I love it.

So that is a bit about what is going on.  I will keep up with this a bit better I promise
